Song Trends. My Throwback Wedding.

Whilst out with my Mum in Canterbury last week I heard Kiss Me by Sixpence None the Richer and was swept back to 1997. I looked up violin covers of the song when I got home and came across the fabulous album by The Vitamin String Quartet entitled ‘My Flashback Wedding’. It ocurred to me that young couples getting engaged in 2023 grew up with the songs that I was listening to as a teenager and young adult via their parents.

I already have quite a few songs in my repertoire from the 80s and 90s but am always happy to learn some more. At a wedding fair last Sunday I tried out some 90s love song classics which I have in my repertoire and they went down really well. Head Over Heels by Tears For Fears is a personal favourite. Also the covers of Without You and Words by Mariah Carey and Boyzone are very emotive.

What songs have stayed with you from your childhood and make you feel all fuzzy inside? Something by The Beatles and You Can Close Your Eyes by James Taylor & Carly Simon do it for me.

Which songs from the 80s and 90s would you like me to add to my repertoire?
